Let’s be honest, I’m not what you’d call a ‘fan’ of Nissans. I’m not even particularly into JDM (that’s Japanese Domestic Market to the uninitiated) cars. But I appreciate them for what they are and do understand the appeal. But what I am a fan of is nice Hot Wheels cars and there can be no denying that Mattel did a pretty handy job on this little Skyline.
The metal-flake paint is a nice deep blue and what I really appreciate is the use of tampo’s for both the front and rear lights as well as front and rear badges. Those little details can really make a Hot Wheel and it is often the lack of such details that drive many of us to customising.
The various Skyline models that Hot Wheels produce continue to be highly sought after by JDM collectors, especially the adult ones. As a result they’re always hard to find on the pegs. I was fortunate enough to come across a pair of these when browsing a freshly stocked shelf and figured I’d better pick them up to see what all the fuss was about. I’m glad I did as it’s a pretty sweet car and it’s highly likely I’ll slap some Real Riders on it before much longer. When I do I’ll be sure to update this article.
In the meantime, enjoy the pics.
